Allowed lost-time claims by age and gender
Over the past decade, the Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey on employment shows that the average gender distribution of Ontario’s employed workforce was 52 per cent men and 48 per cent women. The average distribution of all allowed lost-time Schedule 1 claims was 61 per cent men and 39 per cent women over the same period.
The gender demographic of Schedule 1 allowed lost-time claims is different from the overall profile of Ontario’s employed workforce. Men are just over half of Ontario’s workforce but nearly two-thirds of all Schedule 1 allowed lost-time claims.
Over the last 10 years, a growing number of all allowed lost-time claims were people 55 years of age and older. This is consistent with Statistics Canada’s employment trends and reflects the aging population. The number of claims for this age group has stayed mostly the same over the 10 years. People 25 to 54 years old continue to have the most allowed lost-time claims.
