Allowed Lost Time Claims by Age and Gender
The Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey (LFS) on employment shows that over the past decade, the average gender distribution of Ontario’s employed workforce was 52 per cent male and 48 per cent female. Over the same period, the average distribution of all allowed lost time Schedule 1 claims was 62 per cent male and 38 per cent female.
The demographic of Schedule 1 allowed lost time claims is different from the overall profile of Ontario’s employed workforce. Males represent slightly more than half of Ontario’s workforce but nearly two thirds of all Schedule 1 lost time allowed claims.
Over the last 10 years, those aged 55 years and over have continued to represent a growing proportion of all allowed lost time claims. This reflects the aging of Ontario’s workforce, and is consistent with Statistics Canada’s employment trends. Over the same period, the proportion of claims for those aged 25 to 54 years has declined and for those aged 15 to 24 years has remained relatively stable. Workers aged 25 to 54 years continue to represent the majority of allowed lost time claims.
