2017 allowed lost-time claims by leading injury source

Over the past 10 years, persons (bodily motion or condition) and structures (including walkways, floors, and buildings) have consistently been the leading source of injury for allowed lost-time claims. In 2017, these two sources of injury account for 23 per cent and 21 per cent of lost-time claims, respectively.

Where persons were the source of injury, females and health care sector workers represented the highest percentage of these lost-time claims in 2017. Three of the five leading injury sources were highest among those aged 20 to 24 years, in various occupations.

Sprains and strains were the leading nature of injury for all five leading injury sources and the part of body most often injured was the lower back.
