Non-economic loss benefit payments
Non-economic loss benefits are based on age and the severity of the permanent impairment. They are awarded to recognize that, beyond a wage loss, an injured person has also suffered a physical, functional, or psychological loss. Non-economic loss benefits are calculated as a percentage of whole body impairment.
The yearly total of allowed claims currently receiving a non-economic loss benefit has decreased by seven per cent since 2013. Overall, this decrease is reflective of improved recovery and a decrease in new claims overall.
