Non-economic loss benefit payments
A person is eligible for a non-economic loss benefit if their work-related injury or illness causes a permanent impairment. When calculating this benefit we review the person’s age, type of permanent impairment, and take into account that this person is not just losing wages but also has a permanent physical, functional, or psychological injury.
Non-economic loss benefits are calculated as a percentage corresponding to the impaired portion of the whole body.
Since 2014, the number of people getting a non-economic loss benefit has gone up by 15 per cent. This trend is consistent with the increase in new awards and claims where people have lost time from work.
