WSIB covered employment by industry sector

The distribution of people in the industry sectors covered by the WSIB has remained mostly the same over the past 10 years. Since 2008, five sectors (services, manufacturing, health care, construction, and transportation) made up over 80 per cent of businesses covered by WSIB. The large increases in employment in the construction, health care, and services industry sectors caused an overall 15 per cent increase in the number of people covered in Schedule 1 businesses over the last 10 years.

Most industry sectors had an increase between 2017 and 2018 in covered employment, with the exception of the agriculture, forestry, and pulp and paper. Electrical and primary metals went up seven per cent making them the industry sectors with the largest increase in covered employment.
