WSIB covered employment by industry sector

The distribution of people among the industry sectors that are covered by the WSIB has remained fairly consistent over the past 10 years. Since 2008, five sectors (services, manufacturing, health care, construction, and transportation) accounted for over 80 per cent of WSIB-covered employment. The significant increases in employment in the construction, health care, and services industry sectors resulted in an overall 15 per cent increase in the number of Schedule 1 employees over the last 10 years.

Comparing 2017 with 2016, most industry sectors experienced an increase in covered employment, with the exception of the automotive, education, electrical, forestry, and mining sectors. With an increase of 10 percent, pulp & paper was the industry sector with the largest proportional increase of covered employment.
