External Provider Expense Payments
Since the implementation of the Work Reintegration Program in November 2010, which focuses on delivering return to work services with internal oversight, there has been a significant decrease in the payments to external providers. Overall, the decrease is a reflection of the program’s improved return to work outcomes for injured workers, and of fewer claims entering the system.
In 2016, Schedule 1 claims experienced a 15 per cent decrease in external provider payments compared with the prior year. Education and training continues to be the largest category, accounting for half of external provider payments in 2016.
