Benefit payments by benefit category

The WSIB makes benefit payments to or on behalf of people with workplace injuries or illnesses. Benefit payments are made during a specific year and are grouped into eight categories found in the table below. From 2013 to 2016, benefit payments had been decreasing year-over-year.  2017 has seen an increase in benefit payments of five per cent from 2016.

Loss of earnings, pensions, and health care continue to account for the highest percentage of benefits paid to injured employees. For 2017, these three benefit categories account for over 80 per cent of all benefit payments made to or on behalf of employees (excluding loss-of-retirement income fund expense).
